A Teeny, Tiny Rant

I don't consider myself to be one of "those people". You know the kind, they complain about small, petty things... "it's too hot outside", "he didn't put his turn signal on", "I broke a nail", blah, blah, BUT there is just something inside of me that will not leave this alone...

A little background - I primarily do my grocery shopping at Walmart. Even though I live around the corner from a grocery store and actually drive past another on my way, I find Walmart often has the best prices - especially on boxed items (crackers, cereal and such). When I shop, I organize my food as I'm putting it in my shopping cart - anal you say?! Perhaps, but sometimes it's the small things that put my mind at ease. And come on, it's logical. I mean really, put all the cans and glass jars together, the boxed items to one side, the fruits and veggies in another area... makes sense. This should also help the cashier when scanning and packing - right?

Today I met the absolute worst packing-cashier! I brought my own bags (pat on my back), placed them in front of my items on the belt and hurriedly had to stop her from charging me for them - an honest mistake as they were Walmart bags. She first put 5 cans in one bag and tried to pass it to me. I told her to fill it up. "Are you sure Mam, it will be heavy" Ha! Mam?! I'm 32! "Oh I'm sure, I can handle it". Not a word of a lie, every single bag looked a little like this...

I can look past the fact that she thought my grapes were cherries and tried to charge me triple and that then proceeding to put them into their very own plastic bag. However, she literally threw each item into this bag (and the others). Why do I go to all the trouble of organizing to make her job easier if she's just going to turn around and make it hard for me to carry the bags and even get them fitting side by side in the cart.... *exhale*

"Mommy, why are you taking a picture of the groceries?" :) Some day, they'll get it.

I also organize my cart and how items are placed on the check out belt. Drives my kids nuts! I put all of the heavy items first. I keep cans together, boxed items together, same with dairy and meat, with fruits and vegetables last. It drives me crazy when things are not bagged correctly. Most of the time I bag my groceries myself, again it really bugs the kids when I do this.

Some people just do not get it.

hahaha ok I am anal too but differently. I organize mine by upstairs/downstairs at home. So sometimes I put bread and cans together, it's funny how many baggers/cashiers have tried to rebag on me. I don't put the cans on top of the bread, but I place the cans on the bottom and then the bread lays flat on top. I have 2 boys running around at home and another one soon to be, we need to get things sorted as fast as we can. But yeah I would have a stroke if I saw those bags! Oh and I don't bring my own bags, which I've gotten lectures on too, but we gladly pay for them, b/c we use them for kitty litter bags, and we would have to buy bags for that anyways!

That is just another reason that I HATE Wal-Mart. It's just not worth my stress level rising to save a little money. I actually cinge when I pass one of "those" stores. Ick.

My loves, Target & Market Street. And I too organize my basket and the conveyor belt; can goods, boxes, refrigerated foods, freezer foods ... It just makes sense!

I had to laugh when I read your post!!!! I totally agree with you 1000000000%!! No, you aren't anal about your groceries. I specifically load them on the belt in the order I want them packed. cold with cold, meat with meat, boxes with boxes, etc....it drives me insane when the checkout people can't pack right. I work for a major grocery chain, use to be in the head office but since the boys came I am working at store level....yep, as a freakin cashier. I pack the bags like I would like to have mine packed, and people totally appreciate it. It's sad that at least 75% of the checkout people I go to don't get it right. Me, being me, try to "correct" the kids I work with and show them the proper way or give pleasant suggestions, but they just don't do it!
One kudo for your WalMart cashier though, she/he didn't want to weigh your bag down. Sounds crazy, but the amount of complaints our stores get from customers are in relation to how heavy the cashiers pack the bags. Personally, I want mine stuffed as much as possible....I can take it! Would you bekive that cashiers actually get training from a specialist on how to pack grocery bags......yep and I wonder how many actually pass the test! lol
Have a fab day :O)
